Investigation of the combustion and ash deposition characteristics of oil palm waste biomasses

Abstract Biomass serves as an alternative energy solution for decarbonizing coal-fired power plants, which have been reactivated in several countries due to the global crisis. Oil palm waste, owing its abundant availability, holds significant potential a biomass fuel. This study aimed investigate combustion performance of various oil wastes comparison coal. is associated with ash-related problems such slagging, fouling, and corrosion, may accelerate ash deposit acceleration, reduce heat transfer, damage refractory equipment boilers. Ash-related were evaluated using method commonly adopted solid fuel, including experimental drop tube furnace observation. The results indicate that each waste has different characteristics. Palm leaves, empty fruit bunch, fronds clean probe observation relatively low tendency slagging fouling can be recommended fuel co-firing. However, their high alkali iron contents need considered. fiber similar characteristics coal, but it tendencies. stems chlorine content corrosion confirmed by observation, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analyses.
